I'm fed up about blurbing about myself. Why don't others blurb about me instead...

Animation Club Idea - Opinions? Anyone?

Posted by Jess-The-Dragoon - April 16th, 2013

In my previous post, I mentioned about the idea of creating an Animation Club or some kinda animator index in the NG forum. People say why bother when there's already a collabinator. Well, I've come across many people who don't actually have the intention to become a member of Newgrounds signing up for an account here just to pm an animator they'd like to have animate their project or even hire to animate their project. Most animators are centered at Newgrounds due to the fact that Newgrounds is practically the ONLY site that accepts flash movies, and at the same time, letting its members socialize.

So to make things easier for producers and at the same time, providing more opportunities for Newgrounds animators, I came up with the idea of gathering animators here at NG by listing their skills, portfolios and contact info, preferably in the NG Forum, so that people, especially those outside NG, can easily find and contact them without necessarily signing up.

Of course this club/index would be for ANIMATORS ONLY. The idea is still playing in my head. So far I've tried posting in the NG forum about this but no one was interested. Some say I posted in an unsuitable section of the forum.

So should try posting again or should I take this whole idea out of NG somewhere else? Or should I just forget it? ?_?
Kindly leave your feedback in the comments.

That sounds pretty slick, but I think it would be a bit tricky. I don't really know for certain, but the only thing I see that could bugger this up is potential traffic leaving the site.

It sounds like a great idea, only if you think you can manage it. if you need support then let me know and I'll help the best I can!

(I wont be support money wise)

\/ Yeah, we need all the traffic we can get, however, a public index of animators sounds very helpful in these economically shitty times. But to mix it with a club (and buried in the BBS), would be confusing to outsiders and potentially messy, unless you were considering two different threads... And to just have a yellow page listing for just animators, might alienate the audio, art and game producers :P

There is a lot of value in hosting such a list, with a potential Front Page link... then you'd wanna have white pages for ALL the NG members, active and inactive alike... but are there potential security issues?

Shit. Go to Pico Day and start bending ears! But from (my) years of experience here, Tom and his mates have a very Zen, Founding Father's attitude towards NG, which does its utmost to promote freedom of expression in a peer-controlled sanctuary.

NG is the opposite of Facebook, most everyone here is under an alias. It took me almost two years to join, because I wasn't sure my email address would be safe... It'd be nice if April were attending (Pico Day) - I'd like to ask her if Tom is as good a father and husband, as he is a community leader.

You still have a (large) great idea, but it lacks specifics. If this were Facebook or YouTube, there would be recognized cross-linking.......... (uuuugh!)

One big button on the Front Page. "Animators for Hire"... shit, we all have our price.

I still believe, an aggressive effort made by staff and the producers here (who showcase themselves on FB, YT, Twitter... the other bigger sites), to promote our presence to these bigger websites, and steal their ad-bucks!!I!! The priority with me, is to make sure the producers here can make every dime count in their favor, but that can't happen until we all stick together out there, as much as we do in here!

This is all Egoraptor's fault :| He, and more than few other producers, used to complain about YouTubers, stealing their content.... Now where are we? Evolve or die, right? The tank must be mobilized across the social-media world!

I liked the format you used for descripting the animators information in this http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1336275

The problem with Collabinator is that the animators are considered to be the artist which you don't know if the artist is an animator or just an artist.

If this club will find me a good animator, I suppose maybe that would be a helpful club!

\/ Even better. Fixing the Collabinator with more specific fields (and more hype) will go a long way.
As for a forum, just go here http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1288395/5 and sound off!
